Research Council

The purposes of the ISPN Research Council include the following:

  • To foster and enhance research and scholarship in the broad field of mental health in order to improve care to clients with mental illness, their families, and communities.
  • To increase the knowledge and understanding of psychiatric-mental health nursing practice.
  • To provide a forum for research coordination, collaboration, and consultation as issues across the lifespan are identified.

The objectives of the ISPN Research Council include the following:

  • To encourage research in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
  • To enhance ISPN members’ knowledge of and commitment to evidenced based practice.
  • To enhance ISPN members’ knowledge and commitment to ethical research and practice.
  • To develop and disseminate position papers as appropriate to the mission of ISPN and the goals and objectives of this Council.

There are many projects and activities that support these objectives that will be carried out by the members and Governing Board of ISPN. The Council will be guided in its efforts by the mission of the organization and the strategic plan for the organization. The Council encourages individuals to become actively engaged in research or scholarship to advance the care of patients and their families, and to expand the knowledge of our specialty. Without the efforts of critical thinking and scholarly inquiry the knowledge that we share will be lost to the next generation.

The Research Council plans to develop a Research Conference and has initiated a new research award with funding support.
